When do a health check?

There is no ideal age for health checks. You are exposed to different risks at different phases.

We recommend you at least take advantage of at the below health checks funded by the government as a minimum


40 - 49 year old

  • Risk of developing type 2 diabetes or heart disease

  • Health check might reduce the risk due to lifestyle and/or hereditary

  • You might be eligible for one off or once every three year free health checks


Over 75+ year old

  • Risk of newly developing or deteriorating chronic diseases

  • Health check will look at a broad range of factors that influence a person’s physical, psychological and social functioning.

  • Promotes independent lifestyle

Specific to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person

  • Your may have higher health risk factors than others

  • Will be able to carry out proactive free health checks every 9 months

  • You will be also eligible for heart checks from the age of 35
